People Are My Passion.
Getting a person out of pain is the most satisfying thing I do. I am obsessed with ridding the world of pain and degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis), and have successfully treated thousands of patients. I constantly research the causes of these painful conditions. I develop effective treatments so my patients can experience relief from their dental and orofacial pain.

Education and Continuing Education
- Undergraduate Degree – St. Mary’s College, 1979
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Pacific, 1982
- Double-board certified through the ACSDD (Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines) and AAIPM (Academy of Integrative Pain Management)
In Latin, the word “doctor” means “teacher.” I love to teach, and consequently, I try to learn from the best. While the state of California mandates that we take 50 hours of continuing education courses every two years, I have regularly taken twice that amount for the past 25 years. This tremendous amount of personal research has allowed me to lead my peers in the management of dental and orofacial pain. I have lectured extensively on my dental passions, which include TMJ disorders, sleep medicine, and orthodontics.
Experience
I have melded together many philosophies to develop consistent, high-quality results for my patients. Given my unprecedented access to every conceivable medical and dental expert, I have assembled a network of like-minded professionals. I was a pioneer in the integration of sleep medicine into dentistry, helping companies test new products and using innovative technology. The use of Cone Beam Tomography, for instance, has literally saved lives through the detection of sleep issues, tumors, carotid calcifications, and many other pathologies. Medicine is a complicated world, and becoming more so. It is critical that I continue to lead from the front.
Outside of the Office
I am originally from the East Bay area, graduating from De La Salle High School in Concord. I now live in East Sacramento, just five blocks from my office, where I have been for the past 35 years. I have three grown children and four grandchildren who are perfect in every way!
I am a big believer that you need to give more than you receive. I am a huge supporter of the arts, especially the New Helvetia Theater. I also spent nine years as the co-chair of the fundraising campaign to build the new Alex G. Spanos Heart Center, the No. 1 heart program in the western states, and in the top ten nationally.
